About SIU
What's a Saluki?
It's a dog, right? Yeah, but at SIU it's so much more. It's a mindset. Once a Saluki, always a Saluki.
Research at SIU
Ranked among the top 5 percent of all U.S. higher education institutions for research, our students are making an impact in Southern Illinois and around the globe.
Point of Pride
Special Collections features a noteworthy assortment of world-class collections. Some are unique to SIU, such as the papers of Caresse Crosby, founder of the Black Sun Press, which published the works of D. H. Lawrence, James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway among many other notable writers of the time, and the papers of Katherine Dunham, renowned American dancer, choreographer, author, educator and social activist. Also included is arguably the strongest collection of papers from American philosophers, the John Dewey papers being the flagship of that group.
