Funding and Aid

We are committed to providing a range of funding and aid options to support our graduate students in their academic pursuits. Here are some of the types of financial assistance available:

• Scholarships: We offer a variety of scholarships specifically designed for graduate students. These scholarships are based on merit, academic achievements, leadership, and other criteria.

• Loans: Graduate students may be eligible for various loans and can contact Financial Aid to determine eligibility.

  • Eligibility for federal loans requires that students be making "satisfactory progress" toward a degree. View the requirements for "satisfactory progress" for graduate students. Satisfactory progress is determined annually, at the end of each spring semester. Students who are not making satisfactory progress, and thus ineligible for federal loans, will be notified in writing.

• Assistantships: Graduate assistantships are available in various departments and programs. These assistantships provide you with valuable work experience, a stipend, and often a tuition waiver.

• Fellowships: We offer prestigious fellowships to exceptional graduate students. These fellowships provide financial support and may also include opportunities for research or teaching.

• Postdoctoral Opportunities: For those pursuing postgraduate research, SIU Carbondale offers postdoctoral positions that provide financial support and professional development opportunities.
