Masters Program
Field experience – doing the work with the company of fellow students and the supervision of top quality teachers – is the best way for you to learn the skills you’ll need. That’s why your internship is worth college credit and includes approximately 30 hours a week.
We want you to work with people with disabilities in a variety of settings. You’ll learn to help disabled individuals get jobs, gain independence, participate in their communities and overall, to assume some control over their lives.

Field work – learning by doing in a clinical setting – is crucial for success in this program. SIU’s Rehabilitation Services has working agreements with several human service agencies in the region where you can serve as an intern or a volunteer. You can also consider a minor in Substance use and Behavioral Disorders. When you’ve completed the minor and a supervised internship, you may qualify to become a CADC counselor (Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification).
