Preparing Leaders

Our POLITICAL SCIENCE program prepares students for exciting and well-paying careers that change the world for the better. Upon graduation, some students step immediately into prominent and influential jobs with presidential and congressional campaigns, legislative staffs, and international organizations. Political science has long been the major of choice among students planning a career in public service, government, or law.

Opportunities

We offer several academic scholarships and paid internships that typically lead to full-time jobs in the state legislature, governor's office, congressional staff, government, interest groups, lobbying organizations, nonprofits, and other institutions.

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute here at SIU is a non-partisan think tank that is active in public opinion polling, civic education, speaker series, and other initiatives. Political science students are well prepared to participate in the institute's programs, including internships with the institute and four paid internships in Springfield.
