Bachelor's Program
As an undergraduate mathematics major at SIU, you may work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Science or the School of Education. The classes in the mathematics major curriculum are small and are taught by senior faculty members. A strong support system of college and departmental advisement is available to you at SIU throughout the year.
We make it easy to pair Mathematics with another major with our double major program. Math as a double major broadens your career flexibility, and gives you an extra edge in other careers that depend on the use of math – such as finance or engineering.
All of the bachelor’s degree programs in mathematics, including the Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Education, have sufficient flexibility to allow you to prepare for alternate career possibilities.
Real World Learning
An Industrial Mathematics class spent a semester working with Ameren Illinois to generate data-driven predictions of service reliability.
The project received funding from the National Science Foundation through the Mathematical Association of America It’s the sort of real-world, hands on learning you can expect at SIU.
Graduate Program
Students in the graduate program can earn either a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree, or a Ph.D. in mathematics.
A double major at the master’s level between mathematics and a related discipline is also an option.
At the doctoral level, a student may specialize in any one of a large number of fields such as applied mathematics, statistics, computational mathematics, or pure mathematics.
Interdisciplinary programs are also available.
