Linguistics Program

There is something special about language. It is one of the most important human achievements. Think of all the ways you encounter language in a single day. Linguistics is the study of language and its use.

Watch Your Language. Major in Linguistics.

Bachelor of Arts - Master of Arts

Language helps us define our relationships with other people. The words you use may signal what region of a country you are from, or even your age or socio-economic status. Our students study the sounds of language, how words are built, how sentences are constructed, and what words and sentences mean. We also study how language is learned and processed in our minds and brains, how it is used in social-cultural contexts and how it changes over time.
